Review by Dena Blakeman
FROM THE writer of 'Save the Last Dance' and 'Step Up' comes, surprisingly, another dance film marketed for the disillusioned adolescents who still have a glimpse of a dream left in them somewhere.
It's a typical small-town America type of film, with the theme of the All American Dream thrown in just in case it's forgotten.
Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse, Death Proof, Die Hard 4.0), 'Make It Happen' is the stirring story of a young woman Lauryn, who, rejected from the Chicago School of Music and Dance, begins working instead as a seedy burlesque dancer.
She initially finds it to be nothing more than a place of conflict, as she discovers a new style of dance that proves to be nothing but trouble at first, but ultimately she finds herself and a journey of self discovery incurs.
A run of the mill, generic delivery with some uplifting moments and good performances that will ensure it has an audience out there somewhere in peak holiday season.
