1 September 2008
A BLUE Plaque to celebrate the life of Sir Henry Cooper will be the first of the 2007 winners in the ‘News’ and council scheme to be unveiled.
The lovable boxer will be in attendance when his ceremony takes place at the Thomas A Beckett pub, on the Old Kent Road.
Our 'Enry will kick off proceedings at 11.30am on September 11, where he will be making a speech in recognition of the award. The former British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion was among six nominees who will be honoured, after a public vote took place in which more then 3,000 votes were cast.
The next ceremony to take place will be that of war time singer Anne Shelton (pictured) on October 6, further details of which will be released closer to the time.
