16 September 2008
THE CHILDREN of St Joseph's Primary School in the Borough have grown some spectacular sunflowers, writes Laura Daly...
And the children- together with their parents and teachers- have raised a whopping £1200 with their sunflowers. £600 will go to children's charity 'Greenfinger Appeal' who use the money raised to build gardens for children's hospices and the other £600 will go toward the school and anything that the children want- ideas include new goalposts.
The children already raised £800 last year and the money was used to buy a new shed for all their toys and sports equipment which has come in very handy! Next year they hope to raise even more.
Bridget Sweeney, the teaching assistant who had the idea of growing sunflowers, wanted to thank the very generous parents and also Sitemasters and Complete Drilling Services, who donated money to the cause.
Bridget said that it's a great idea because the kids love doing it and all of them get involved- 'it's 'kids for kids' because all the money they raise goes towards their school and to help other children!'
