8 October 2008
THE GARRISON in Bermondsey has become the third restaurant in the borough to enter the prestigious Michelin Good Food Guide 2009.
Discussing the 21st century rejuvenation which has seen Bermondsey Street go from the centre of food processing to the home of a Michelin recommended restaurant, the report given was very complimentary and described the restaurant as 'shabby chic gastro-pub meets boho brasserie'.
Full of 'bustle and life' and frequented by a cool midday crowd, the atmosphere is even better if you manage to sit at one of the booths. There is also a room downstairs available for party bookings and comes complete with a cinema screen. The food is described as 'wholesome' and 'full of flavour' with the menu changing every eight weeks and a blackboard menu every day; the smoked haddock with bubble and squeak was a particular favourite.
For more details about menus and opening times see the website, www.thegarrison.co.uk.
The two other Southwark restaurants which feature in the Michelin guide are the Hartley and the Anchor & Hope.
