30 October 2008
WAVE GOODBYE to the Twenty-first-century and sail away to Tudor Britain on Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hinde, writes Alex Steger...
On the 22nd of November the Golden Hinde will have a family sleep over, where anyone from five upwards is invited to immerse themselves in Tudor dress, life on board a galleon, and even sample an authentic Tudor breakfast.
The Hinde is a reconstruction of the famous ship in which Britain's most professional of pirates, Sir Francis Drake, circumnavigated the globe.
Visitors will have the chance to become an Officer, Barber Surgeon or Gunner aboard the ship and learn some history.
Other up and coming events include the Golden Hinde becoming the Ghoul-den Hinde when it hosts a fancy dress Halloween Party on November 1, and a Pirate Fun Day on November 29, giving the chance for would be buccaneers to explore all five decks of the boat.
The Golden Hinde is situated in St Mary Overie Dock, Bankside, only a short walk from the Clink Prison Museum. The Sleep over starts at 5.00 pm and ends at 9.00 am the following day. Tickets cost £39.95.
