OLDIES BUT GOODIES

8 December 2008

HIDDEN AWAY not far from Tower Bridge is a veritable Ali Baba's cave of antique furniture, writes Emanuel Nordrum...

Tower Bridge Antiques is the largest indoor furniture market in London, and promises an exciting experience for those looking for a special find for Christmas.

"It's an old fashioned market where people come and barter," the manager, Ron Little, says. "Barter like you would in Istanbul."

The antique market is well known among dealers, many of which come from all over the world, but to the general public it is relatively unknown.

And you can find a real bargain.

"It's lovely," Little says of a large Victorian cabinet. "It's a fantastic piece of furniture. It's not that expensive. People think it's going to be ten grand, but it isn't."
