THE LEGEND THAT IS HANNAH MONTANA

THE LEGEND THAT IS HANNAH MONTANA

23 April 2009

Release date - May 1st 2009

Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) struggles to juggle school, friends and her secret pop-star persona; when Hannah Montana's soaring popularity threatens to take over her life - she just might let
it.

The plot is spelled out, perfectly simply: Hannah's a big star, and everyone knows it. But all this celebrity is starting to go to her head, as demonstrated by a public fight in a shoe shop over a pair of stilettos. And she picks it with Tyra Banks.

This event gets her in trouble with her dad. She's packed on a private plane - she thinks it's bound for New York but it touches down in Tennessee, instead.

So Hannah/Miley has been brought home by her father as punishment, and there she will either learn about the important things in life, or decide whether she can cope with being Hannah Montana AND an ordinary girl after all.
There are also tears, several parties and, we are promised, 12 new songs. What more could one's inner (or outer) 10-year-old require?

The suggestion, of course, is that Miley, realising her life is so much simpler and homely down on the farm, might just give up the superstar life and the fame and fortune, and that the Hannah Montana we know might entirely cease to be.

Is that likely to actually happen? More like she works out it's possible to both stay grounded and maintain her double life of ordinary teenager and pop-star by the end.

Making its debut in 2006, Hannah Montana has easily matched the success of all its counterparts, including that of the much-hyped High School Musical.

The franchise is built around the story of Miley who leads a double life: by day, she is an ordinary high school student, but at night she is the pop sensation known as Hannah Montana. The show is one of the highest ranking programmes made for girls aged eight to 12 across all UK channels.

The third series has just launched on the Disney Channel, boasting a new look for the teen superstar. Her first two albums, released under the Hannah Montana licence, have both gone gold in the UK.

With triumphs such as these under Disney's belt, the stage is set for the inevitable success of the official video game for Hannah Montana: The Movie. Launching alongside its silver screen source material, the game follows the events of the film and allows Hannah's fans to experience the life of being a pop star struggling to lead a normal life when the spotlights are turned off.

No doubt the hype will continue and little girls, dreaming big dreams, will continue to follow in the legend that is Hannah Montana.
