PARTY ON LONDON BRIDGE

1 July 2009

London Bridge will be closing for a day to host a massive party celebrating its 800th anniversary.

The free party, which will see sheep taken across the bridge, face painting stalls and entertainment, is being held on July 11.

The party, organised by the Lord Mayor of London, also forms part of the London Bridge Festival.
Bars and clubs are holding comedians’ Edinburgh preview shows (see right), while a series of competitions are planned to get people involved in the festival.

People are being set the challenge of making in a film in two days in the London 48 Hours Short Film Competition.
They will be given a title and genre by festival organisers on July 10, with the challenge of writing, shooting, editing and submitting a short film on July 12 at the Roxy Bar and Screen, where they can then chill out with other participants.

The London Photography Competition has the theme of Grime and Glamour. Entries should be in by July 17.
Daily Telegraph photo-journalist Kate Day will judge and the three winners will get to go to the festival wrap party.

And with the same theme of glamour and grime, people can enter their short stories to the festival’s writing competition. Shortlisted entries will be read at a special performance reading at the Old Operating Theatre.
Deadline for entries is noon on July 17.
