Kenny Jackett won the race to sign free-scoring target man Steve Morison, who is determined to show exactly what he is capable of on the big stage, following his dream move.
Clubs across League One and League Two had been vying for the 25-year-old's signature for over three years, with non-league Stevenage hanging on tight to their prized possession.
But a shot at spearheading the Lions attack and leading them to promotion was too good to resist for the determined front-man.
What does it mean to have joined Millwall and to be here in pre-season?
It is absolutely fantastic. I've waited for my opportunity for four years now and finally I've got it. I didn't think it would be a club as big as Millwall, but it is and I am settling in really well.
Hopefully I can prove some people wrong and score lots of goals at this level.
When did you realise the Millwall move was on?
I was pretty close in January, but that never happened and I got on with what I was doing. Our season ended with the playoffs and then our FA trophy Wembley win.
The club said they had agreed a deal with Millwall and said I could speak to Kenny Jackett. I got that phone call and it was all done then in two or three days.
I said all along I wanted to go to Millwall and once Kenny rang it was a straightforward decision.
How have you found the training and settling in with the squad?
It's all gone really well. I was very surprised how easily I settled in, but that's down to the players here. They have taken me on board like I have been here for ages. It's a great set of lads and I've enjoyed every minute.
Training has been tough, but it's been scheduled really well. We had done our running at 7.30 every morning, then had a long break for breakfast. And then we get into the football and have a nice break for lunch.
We are back into a normal routine now but it is still intense and enjoyable.
Did you know any of the squad before you arrived?
I didn't know anybody. I'd heard of a few people who are here. I called Robbo the Sunday before we came back on the Wednesday and asked to follow him in to training, but he told me to come and join the car school with him, Bolds and Marcus Bignot. They were the first people I met.
I knew [Tony] Burnsey who was at Stevenage with Peter Taylor.
Are you ready for the big step up?
I have been linked with clubs for the last three seasons and I always wanted to make the step. I feel I am more ready than I have been in the past few summers. I think I'm ready, I've fitted in quite well and I'm not doing myself any harm in training. Hopefully I can step up and show what I'm about in the pre-season games and then into the league.
What do you add to the strikeforce?
I haven't failed to score less than 25 goals a year in the past three seasons and hopefully I can bring goals to the team. I have a decent presence, I'm quite good in the air and I'm reasonably strong.
My all round game is not bad and I create goals as much as I score them.
Is that tally realistic with the competition for places?
I can't see why not. I've always had competition for my place wherever I have been and I've always managed to start games. If I start the games and play games, I am sure that I will score goals.
With players around like Bolds in midfield, David Martin and Chops who create a lot of goals and chances for players around them - I'm sure I can get plenty of goals.
Is there any particular game you are looking forward to?
For me, they will all be big games and massive steps. I'm used to going to the Barrows away and playing in front of 1,000 people.
It will all be massive to me but what an exciting first fixture. Not only is it against Southampton and it being down at St Mary's, but it is on TV. It's the first league game of the season to be shown - it's fantastic and a great buzz.
If you can't get out of bed with a smile on your face ready for that then there is something wrong with you.
