SYMONDS HOLDS THE XFACTOR FOR SURREY

Aussie all rounder Andrew Symonds will be part of Surrey's Twenty20 squad this year the Oval outfit announced this week.

Symonds, 34, had been one of the most explosive and exciting cricketers on the world scene for a number of years but has also proved to be a colourful character off the pitch too.

The Aussie scored a century off just 34 balls for Kent in domestic cricket, and he has been central to many of Australia's successful one day campaigns.

But he was suspended from the 2005 Ashes tour following disciplinary problems, which ruled him out of the running for a domestic one day player of the year award.

On the pitch his hard hitting, spin bowling or medium pacers are very much an asset and Symonds said this week: "I have always enjoyed playing in England and I am really looking forward to playing with the Surrey Lions.

I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to play this exciting form of tournament cricket in so many different regions and I am sure the English crowds will make the Friends Provident T20 competition one of the best."

Speaking about securing Symonds' signature, Surrey Professional Cricket Manager Chris Adams said: "Signing a player with the unique abilities of Andrew Symonds will add a huge 'X Factor' to our squad in the Friends Provident T20.

"I have watched him take apart some of the best bowlers in the world and am hugely excited to see him exhibit his skills in front of packed houses around the country."

The Queenslander is currently playing in the Indian Premier League for the Deccan Chargers and he will join up with the Surrey squad in early June.
