13 April 2011
This Sunday at 7.30pm the Bermondsey Gospel Choir will be performing at City Hope Church in Drummond Road as part of the church’s Easter celebrations.
The choir will be performing well known gospel standards as well as some newer songs and they will be encouraging the audience to join in from time to time.
Local preacher Paul Brown will also give a short, relevant Easter message as part of the evening’s programme.
Senior Leader, Vic Wilson said: “We’ve been looking forward to the choir performing ever since their time with us at Christmas. I’m sure people will have a great time; an inspirational way to celebrate the true meaning of Easter.”
The Bermondsey Gospel Choir is the latest in a long history of community activities at City Hope Church.
The church on Drummond Road, opposite the old Peek Freans site was established in 1864 to cater for the practical and spiritual needs of Bermondsey people and has been doing so ever since. Many local people still talk fondly of their time at Boys’ Brigade or Girls’ Brigade and more recently, the Fun Days in Southwark Park.
And today as so many local services are being cut, they continue to provide community activities for all ages: From thriving baby and toddler groups to popular weekly clubs for primary and secondary age children through to a Seniors’ Club, a very busy debt advice service and ladies aerobics. The Choir is just the latest in a long and varied line of activities that are ALL FREE to the community.
