BURIED DIESEL TANKS TO DELAY PARK REOPENING

Huge industrial-sized diesel tanks have been discovered buried deep in the ground in Burgess Park as Southwark Council carried out a major redevelopment of the site.

The two chambers leaked the toxic fuel into soil and the ground water for years before being found and the clean-up bill is expected to be more than £1million.
