The father of a young cyclist killed at a Bermondsey junction has welcomed a pledge from council chiefs to create a new network of cycle routes in a sudden policy U-turn.
In an exclusive interview with the News, Council Leader Peter John admitted the policy laid out in the council’s Transport Plan last year, aiming to ‘integrate’ cyclists and traffic in 20 mile per hour streets with no cycle lanes, was not the best strategy for ensuring immediate improvements to safety.
