John Hegley is known as a poet and singer with a common and comedic touch. 

For this show he will tell tales about a Frenchman with some unusual (but clean) habits, which include burying his dog’s kennel and his own luggage pieces. These stories appear alongside other new works, which include an address to aliens on the subject of transport, a poem about a non-talking parrot and some animal impersonations with the aid of a handkerchief.

John found time to talk to the News before his forthcoming show at the brand new Canada Water Culture Space. He recalled the early days of his comedy career and regularly getting ‘gonged’ off at the Comedy Store before gradually honing his craft.

He says the poetry came when it was too cold to play his guitar as an accompaniment to his comic songs when out on the street busking, so wore gloves and shook a tambourine instead while he spoke the words.

This, in turn, led to more poetry and less guitar playing. Or so he says. But how much trust can you put in a man who says he is currently working on a song called John Keats Didn't Keep His Receipts? You have been warned.

Although constantly touring he has still managed to write many books of verse that usually include his own illustrations. Having seen Hegley perform before, this event comes highly recommended.
Suitable for most people over seven. The audience is invited to sing along. But not to dance. Much.
