KING'S OPEN DAY

KING'S OPEN DAY

28 June 2012

King’s College Hospital will be giving the community the opportunity to see behind the scenes of their local hospital this weekend.

During the hospital’s annual Open Day this Sunday visitors attending the event will see the grounds of the Denmark Hill site completely transformed. Four marquees will be erected for staff from the Liver Unit, Neurology, Children’s Wards, Maternity, Research and Development, Sexual Health and Stroke - amongst many others.

A mini Olympics, face painting, clowns, live music, bouncy castle and an array of competitions will be just some of the fun activities being held throughout the day. Mole checks, blood pressure checks, dental checks, dietary advice, and a chance to take part in a pedal exerciser race will also be on offer.

For young science boffins, there will be the chance to take part in some crazy experiments and any child wishing to bring their teddy bears can take them along to the Teddy Bear Hospital to have them bandaged. Avid viewers of 24Hours in A&E – the documentary series about the Emergency Department at King’s - will also have the opportunity to find out more about the service King’s provides for patients who arrive with life-threatening injuries.

A whole host of fundraising events will be taking place on the day, including a sponsored abseil down the Golden Jubilee Wing in aid of the King’s College Hospital Charity ‘Together We Can’. King’s last Open Day attracted 2,000 visitors.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday 1 July between 11am and 3.30pm.
