The council should issue smog alerts so that teachers can close playgrounds next to main roads when pollution levels are high, the Green Party has said.

Thousands of children across Southwark are at increased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma because of toxic fumes from main roads, the party claims.
