Decor
Crumbling railway arch, rescued by arty squatters with more money than they'd like to admit. The long narrow tunnel is lined by a metal bar and open grill on one side and wooden chairs and tables on the other. The DJ booth is encircled with a ceiling high neon heart and the front outdoor area has covered benches and fire.
Ambience
Students and people with creative jobs mix with young families, under lights dimmed by the addition of an empty egg box. An eclectic mix of music plays from a Mac, with people walking though to the Sassoon Gallery out back, where exhibitions, film nights and other events are held.
Drinks
Guinness on draught, around 20 bottled beers including Leffe, Budvar. Around eight bottles of red and white wine (large glass £3.25) and soon to stock an organic variety grown in time with the rhythms of the moon. Lots of cocktails (£5-7 and two for one between 6-8pm).
food
Food: Hearty, coarse ground burgers in bagels (£7 and two for one on a Tuesday).
Owner: Benjamin Sassoon, 52
"I was an architect by trade and had this place as a workshop and thought it would be fun to turn it into a bar. It's been a great success, it's very buzzy."
Barmaid: Ruby Kvalheim, 20
"My mum lives on this road and so I'm very local. I know a lot of people who come in here. In fact, most of the staff are in here on their days off!"
Regular: Oliver Reed, 22 Photographer and Gallery Manager
"I've been coming here since it opened two years ago. It's a good local and they've got free broadband."
