*Detectives hunt for missing prostitute

*Link made to Rotherhithe murder inquiry

*Appeal to look for evidence in the local area

The disappearance of a prostitute, who has not been seen for over a month, could be linked to the murder of a Chinese DVD seller in Rotherhithe, police revealed this week.

Bonnie Barrett, a 24 year old from Canning Town, has not been seen since September 17. Now, officers leading the investigation into the murder of east London DVD seller Xiao Mei Guo say they believe she may have visited the Rotherhithe area and are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.

She is described as white, 5ft 2" and thin with long brown hair and blue eyes. At the time she disappeared she was wearing black trainers, blue jeans and a short brown jacket with a fur trimmed collar.

DI Damon Hall, part of the investigation team, told the 'News': "We are investigating the links between the disappearance of Bonnie Barrett and the murder of Xiao Mei Guo.”

As well as searching for Bonnie, police continue to scour the peninsular for the body of Xiao Mei Guo, which has yet to be found. Huge teams of specialist officers are searching all scrub land and derelict buildings in the area, with divers in the Thames and British Transport Police officers hunting on local railway lines.

DI Damon Hall, part of the investigation team, told the 'News': "We are investigating the links between the disappearance of Bonnie Barrett and the murder of Xiao Mei Guo.

"A man has been charged with Mrs. Guo's murder and at this time there are no other known murder investigations or missing persons' inquiries which I can associate with Mrs. Guo's murder.

“Accordingly, I'd like to reassure the public, especially those in the Rotherhithe and Whitechapel areas, that there is no undue cause for alarm.

“We really would like to hear from anybody in the area who has seen any unusual disturbances in earth or seen discarded clothing in public areas."

A man has been charged with the murder of Xiao Mei Guo and is currently remanded in custody next due to appear at the Old Bailey on January 16.

Anyone who has information they believe could assist the inquiry is asked to contact either the Incident Room on 0208 3451585 or to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
