Ever get annoyed at the flicks because all you can drink is a bucket of Coke? Not at this Bermondsey gem. Lager, wine or even a cocktail can be had at this venue, which is a perfect mix of café, bar and cinema, writes Oliver Pugh... 

The Drinks
Fresh tasting lager is harder to come across than you might think, but this place has it by the barrel. It's got all the essential stuff, including a cocktail list that covers the classics well - especially as they're all £6. 
 
The Food
Grub at Shortwave is café style and mainly for soaking up the booze or as a snack before a film.  The menu takes in freshly prepared cakes, vegetarian pastries, stews, soups, bread and olives.

The Room
With an entirely glass front, Shortwave is light and airy in the day, while at night the warm red lights come on and give the place a great atmosphere. With two cinema screens and a host of independent films, the Bermondsey Square venue makes for a great space for parties and events. Its outside seating is also a fantastic spot for those long summer nights that we all hope are on their way.

The Feel
Open for less than a year, Shortwave is quickly becoming popular with the locals and, run by the laid back and friendly Rob, it can't fail to have a relaxed and welcoming feel.

I think in the spring and summer we do well because we've got the outside area - it gets the sun all day! More and more it's becoming a local for people round here, rather than being filled with the after work crowd.
