FEW ARE alive who remember what the Walworth Road and Old Kent Road areas of Southwark were like more than eighty years ago.

But Ellen Shevyn, who is 94, has clear memories of the area at the time. With written memoirs outlining the good, bad and indifferent times of her life living in the borough, they shed some light on the development of the area some 80 years ago. Moving into different accommodation on nineteen different occasions Shevyn describes her time as, “a horrible life.”
