12 March 2008
AFTER A period of closure for the last two years, the Fashion and Textile Museum on Bermondsey St has reopened its doors.
Now operated by Newham College it is a hub of learning for the fashion industry as well being a venue for a dynamic programme of contemporary exhibitions.
As well as a small permanent collection of Zandra Rhodes clothes there will be a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year. The first of these is in association with Getty Images Gallery and is called Peacocks and Pinstripes - a snap shot of masculine style. This photographic exhibition focuses on the often overlooked side of men's fashions and features a host of famous faces, such as The Rolling Stones, Roger Moore and Stephen Fry.
The FTM Cafe will also be open daily from 11:00 to 17:00 and will serve a selection of hot and cold lunches, cakes and snacks and tea and coffee. The FTM Shop is a must for anyone that has an interest in contemporary fashion.
