7 October 2008
THE CHILDREN'S bookshop Tales on Moon Lane was called "a superb children's bookshop" as it won the Walker Books Children's Independent of the Year, writes Madeleine Lindh...
After being shortlisted for the Bookseller Retail Awards four years in a row, the popular Herne Hill children's bookshop was finally announced the winner of the coveted Children's Independent of the Year in a ceremony at The Natural History Museum.
The judges called the bookshop "a fabulous celebration of children's books in London" and Neill Taylor, Editor-in-Chief of The Bookseller and Chair of Judges commented: "Tales on Moon Lane is quite simply a superb children's bookshop." He continued: "This is a great shop that is doing great work for children and reading."
Tamara Linke, owner of the bookshop, accepted the award from bestselling crime fiction writer Mark BIllingham at the ceremony. She commented : "This was the year the award was most useful. It was presented on the anniversary of opening our Primrose Hill shop, so it felt like a double celebration." When asked why it is important that children read, she said: "It's an essential life skill. Reading narratives helps children develop concentration skills and a further understanding of the world."
Tales On Moon Lane - The Children's Bookshop is located on 25 Half Moon Lane, SE24 9JU, and on 9 Princess Road, NW1 8JN
