THERE IS no doubt that Southwark Council royally cocked-up when issuing the new nationwide freedom passes - but it appears that on this occasion they have accepted blame and taken steps to ensure it never happens again.
Over a thousand of the borough's most vulnerable residents were left queuing for hours in March for their new passes, only to find that they had not been processed correctly. In neighbouring boroughs, the switch from London freedom passes to country-wide passes went without many hiccups.
The council gave those affected £200 compensation pay-outs and launched a review, which found that computer problems and non-attendance at vital meeting on how to manage the process were the main reasons for the debacle.
Simply lessons we hope have now been learnt. Just how well will be seen in two years’ time when they are due for renewal again.

Hmm.. here we are two years later and it seems exactly the same thing is happening again!
I have been waiting for 3 months for my new pass, phone calls to the council get me nowhere, (you can only contact a call centre) and I can't get a straight answer from anyone!
