Fancy transporting yourself and your date to another country for the evening, but not sure you can foot the bill? ...writes Charlotte Vaughan-Williams 

Well it may not be as lengthy or as costly as you imagine. With a quick journey to Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre you can get a taste of South America at La Bodeguita, or maybe a spicy Indian adventure at Castle Tandoori Restaurant. 

Described as 'a little bit of Colombia in the heart of London", La Bodeguita serves hearty, home made Colombian food in a lively, Latin-American ambience. The menu is vast, with traditional meat, fish and light tapas dishes available from £1.50 for Colombian meat pasties, to Picada Para Dos, a delicious mix of pork belly, sausage, cassava & tomatoes at £12.

There is also a wide range of cocktails, including, the signature Cachaca, Brazilian sugar-cane rum, and a comprehensive wine list.

With a lively entertainment schedule that promises live music and entertainment at the weekends, you are guaranteed an enjoyable Valentine's night out.

If you have a fiery relationship, how about some delicious spicy Indian food to give your evening a saucy kick? 
 
The Castle Tandoori is a much loved Indian restaurant and is a well-kept secret inside the centre. With a relaxing and sumptuous décor, it boasts a huge range of traditional Indian meat and seafood dishes, and starters. The menu isn't your typical Indian fare throughout, with dishes such as Murgi Masala (chicken tikka and minced meat cooked with egg, mixed herbs and green chili) or tandoori quail (quail cooked with spices, tomato and capsicum in a mild sauce). Prices are reasonable starting at £1.80 for a mulligatawny soup, to £10.95 for Dover sole and spinach cooked in garlic and spring onion. Castle Tandoori also offers a delivery service if you prefer to have the hot stuff in the comfort of your own home!
