27 March 2009
Dulwich Hamlet 0 - 1 Woking
Dulwich Hamlet 2 - 2 Worthing
Dulwich Hamlet 0 - 2 Sittingbourne
With more player departures and a heartbreaking equaliser at the weekend the last thing Dulwich needed was an inept display - but that is what they put in on Tuesday evening.
Even the hardiest of believers will now accept Hamlets fate this year, as the season now looks likely to peter out to a tame end. Even before the weekend the omens were poor as the last chance of silverware disappeared over the horizon, when a young Woking side dumped Hamlet out of the Surrey Senior Cup last Thursday.
Considering that effort the display against high flying Worthing was more than creditable.
Goals from Cedric Ngakam and Daryl Plummer looked to have secured Dulwich a more than deserved win, but an 86th minute equaliser from Jamie Brotherton ensured there was parity on the afternoon.
While the second of the away teams goals more than deserved to pick up point, the first goal was an example of abject defending by Dulwich when Ross Treleaven was left with an empty net as defenders stood around watching.
In between Saturday and Tuesday two more players left the revolving doors of Champion Hill, with skipper Marc Cumberbatch and Nathan Simpson heading for pastures new.
With players coming and going at regular intervals all year lines up have barely resembled each other from week to week, and this week was another example of this.
The players who made it into Tuesday nights first eleven could perhaps be excused for playing like strangers, but the display was insipid nevertheless.
Rio Alderton set Sittingbourne on their way to three easy points with a header on twenty minutes, and when Mark De Bolla rolled in a penalty before the break the result was never really in doubt.
With only pride left to play for this year sleeves will now have to rolled up, and performance like Tuesday not repeated, if any more points are to come Hamlets way.
