Stansfeld 0-2 Phoenix Sports
Stansfeld's title dreams took a massive blow with this defeat against top of the table Phoenix at Baldon Sports, writes Dave Marks...
Left: Jamie Turner
In blustery winds and on a muddy pitch, Phoenix with the wind in there favour made the early running and soon had Stansfeld under pressure, Phoenix with a succession of corners kept Stansfeld in their own area and nearly took the lead in the 20th minute but a good headed clearance from skipper Neil Thurgood cleared the danger.
Stansfeld looked too be going into the break all square but a controversial penalty two minutes from the break was powered home past the unlucky Ricky \Ward in the Stansfeld goal who got a good hand onto it but could not keep it out.
Stansfeld upped the tempo in the second half and were unlucky not to score when Terry Forsyth free-kick went just past the post with the keeper well beaten. Stansfeld kept the pressure on but could not create any clear chances despite the probing of Danny Mckone and Jamie Turner.
Ten minutes from time and Phoenix wrapped up the points from a corner that got caught by the wind and went directly into the Stansfeld goal.
