BANS FOR DRINK DRIVER DESPITE 'HERB' CLAIM

18 May 2012

A 51-year-old man who claims he was above the drink-driving limit because he was taking herbal medicine has been banned from the streets.

The Deptford man crashed into a cab in Lower Road, Surrey Quays on April 29, and told cops he had drunk one pint of beer. But his solicitor told the court that he had taken bark soaked in alcohol, which had been prescribed by a herbal doctor in Nigeria after suffering from blood in his urine. Nazar Aina, of Payne Street, Deptford, was disqualified from driving for eighteen months and fined £225.
