SOMETHING FISHY

5 December 2007

Residents of Southwark will be saying 'Konnichiwa' to a new sushi bar.

Tsuru restaurant, run by Kensuke Yamada, has opened on 4 Canvey Street, off Southwark Street.

Mr. Yamada said: "I spent many years as a little boy wandering around the kitchens, getting in everybody's way.

Japanese food is something I know, understand and love." He continued: "I love England too and have lived here since I was 12 but I've always missed really good Japanese food. If you look carefully you can find decent Japanese food and sushi restaurants seem to be getting more and more popular."

Tsuru means 'crane', a bird representing well being and longevity in Japanese folklore.
