FISH FINALLY END LOSING RUN

Fisher Athletic 1 - 0 Bath City

A strike by Seb Schoburgh finally ended Fisher’s astonishing losing steak, which before last Monday has extended to sixteen matches.

Well that talk is finally over, and terrace gossip can instead concentrate on the winning streak of one. Such lines may seem flippant but the result will bring a spring to the step of the hardy Fisher fans remaining, who have watched their side fall apart on and off the pitch this season.

Schoburgh's volley, following an excellent cross by Wayne Grant, was only the home side's second goal in eight league encounters and finally gave the tireless players some tangible returns for their hearty efforts in recent weeks.

The last time that Fisher secured a league win, which coincides with the last occasion they picked up any points, was back in November when a similarly hard fought encounter resulted in a victory over Bishop Stortford.
The victory was built on some stern defending however, and there needed to be plenty of it as the eventual winner arrived as early as the seventh minute.

Keeper Stuart Robinson was called into action on numerous occasions and even had to pick the ball out of his net three times. However each strike by Bath was ruled out by the ever watchful officials, who pulled back players for offside in every instance.

The evening was not a total backs to the wall effort, and both Nicky Greene and Murray Price went close to doubling the lead before the break.

After half time Bath continued in their efforts to avoid an embarrassing defeat, and came closest when a Chris Holland effort was cleared off the line.

But eventually their efforts petered out and it was Fisher who looked the more likely to score although the second goal never came their way, not that it was to matter on a fabulous night in a tough season for the black and whites.
At the weekend the short trip to Bromley proved fruitless, when Bromley top scorer Warren McBean put the fish to the sword with a brace of goals.

It was more of the recent Fisher formula than Monday night, with lots of effort but little return as they plugged away for the full ninety minutes.

McBean's opener did not come until the 39th minute however when he was on hand to finish a rebound that hit Robinsons post.
If there any doubt about the final result, and there was little, they were extinguished by goals from Ali Chaaban, and McBean again who should have wrapped up a hat trick just before the end but was let down by some lax finishing.
