23 April 2009
A 40-year-old Walworth man pleaded guilty to having child pornography, after a graphic video involving a seven-year-old girl was found on his laptop in a police search.
Martin Lewis, of Charleston Street, admitted having the file on his personal laptop, but insists he only opened it out of curiosity and has been released on bail to return for sentencing while a pre-sentence report is compiled.
Police raided Lewis' home on August 22, 2008, and found a movie file on his laptop with the title - 'Stefanie, 7yo hard sex'. Lewis admitted he was the only person with access to the laptop, but insists he did not go looking for such content and claims he was sent it through an internet website.
The defence asked for a suspended sentence to be issued on the spot, but District Judge Shamoon Somjee indicated that an immediate custodial sentence was a 'real possibility'.
Lewis, who has a previous record, including six charges for the possession of live ammunition, will reappear at Tower Bridge Magistrates’ Court on May 7 for sentencing.
