CRAIG'S CORNER

10 September 2007

CRAIG EDWARDS' VIEW

Saturday saw us start with the hope of a good FA Cup run. I have always had a great affinity with this competition with a fair amount of success. We had a home tie against Three Bridges an unbeaten team from the Sussex County League.

However you cannot ask for more than a home tie against a side from a lower league. Both on and off the pitch we showed a big improvement from the previous weekend. Before the game I said to my assistant Paul Downes we won't have any problems today. The boys were focused, upbeat and determined. I felt we looked organised, this was reflected in denying our opponents a single chance in the game. We created numerous chances and the one downside was we didn't finish the game off far sooner. We have been rewarded with another home tie against Kent side Deal Town and will hope to progress further.

I was delighted with the debutants Regis and Darko. Regis was player of the season a season ago when Salisbury were promoted from the Ryman Premier to the Conference South. He can play in a few positions and has a wealth of experience. He is also a current St.Lucian international. Darko is a natural goalscorer. I thought his introduction on Saturday gave us a real purpose up front. He created both goals and missed several good chances, but all bar one of these were created by his pace and movement. He has proven in the past couple of seasons he scores goals and I'm sure he will do that for us.

We travel to Dover Athletic on Saturday in what will be on paper our toughest fixture of the season. They have a massive budget for this level and are favourites to win the league. However these are the games to relish as players, management and supporters alike. We have trained well and there is a great spirit in the camp and we are confident of going there, causing an upset and coming away with the points.
