Metrogas 1- 0 Stansfeld
Stansfeld began brightly and had the better of the early exchanges and went close on a couple of occasions at Avery Hill, writes Dave Marks...
In the 20th minute a neat one-two between Danny Wardle and Jamie Turner sent Harvey Gayle clear of the Metrogas defence with the keeper advancing towards him.
Gayle lobbed him but the effort landed on top of the net. Stansfeld kept pressing and again went close five minutes before half-time through a Danny McKone header that flashed past the post.
In the second-half Metrogas began pushing players forward and forced a good save from Ricky Ward in the Stansfeld goal. A great run and cross from left back Sid Mitchell found Terry Forsyth who volleyed towards goal but somehow the Metrogas keeper kept it out.
With 20 minutes to go Stansfeld nearly went behind when Metrogas centre-half Tom Gibbons headed just wide. Five minutes later Stansfeld were not as lucky.
Tom Gibbons powered a header into the net from six yards. Stansfeld pushed players forward in search of a equaliser but could not find a way through.
Danny Steels after the game he said the last two games have been a disappointment but said his players have played well this season He added that all Stanfeld need is three points from the next three games to secure a playoff place.
