29 October 2010
Two men who tried to steal a 172mph sports motorbike by cutting through a chain with an angle grinder were caught red handed by police and given a community order.
Dorian Crawford, 22, and Reis Hunnygen-Peart, 22, were identified as part of a group that had targeted the Yamaha R6 in a car park.
They had used two mopeds to arrive at the target bike in Bagshot Street on October 19. But a witness saw them attack the chain securing the bike with an angle grinder and called police.
After a short chase when the police arrived, Hunnygen-Peart crashed his moped into a tree and both he and Crawford were arrested.
Both men gave “no comment” interviews, but pleaded guilty to attempted theft. Crawford, from Egerton Drive in Greenwich, and Hunnygen-Peart, from Thomas Dean Road in Sydenham were sentenced to a six-month community order with an unpaid work requirement of 100 hours, to be completed in six months.
Hunnygen-Peart was also disqualified from driving for six months, after being caught driving with no insurance.

How is £1200 the value of a 172mph sports motorbike?
It is more like 800 hours of unpaid work they should be doing.
