31 January 2008
If you think you know your Kenco from your Arabica coffee and want the certificate to prove it, then you’d better sign up for a course at Bermondsey's new coffee academy.
Anita Le Roy, who runs the popular Monmouth Coffee Company, which has shops in the Borough, and Monmouth Street, in the West End, said the idea was designed to improve the consistency and quality of the coffee used in her shops.
Caffeine lovers will be invited along to taste the finest beans in a bid to reach coffee nirvana, with the added benefit that they will no trouble staying up all night to do that last minute exam revision.
Before you submit your application to get a degree in the niceties of the bean, the bad news is that only members of the trade are allowed in - for now.
Anita said: "At the moment we are just asking people from the industry, but who knows - in the future if it goes well we might open it to everyone."
