COMMUNITY ORDER FOR HAVING KNIFE

A 20-year-old man was given 120 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to possession of a lock-knife while driving his Audi on the New Kent Road.

Grahis Haxhija, of Bowling Green Street, Kennington, admitted the  offence, but claims he had used the knife to fix his car stereo earlier that week and had forgotten it was there.

Haxhija was stopped just before 2am on March 11 and was searched by police for drugs. Just before the search, police noticed the passenger punch Haxhija in the arm as he 'fidgeted' with the front of his trousers. No drugs were found, but during a search of the side panel pocket in the front of the car - the lock-knife was found.

With the defence claiming Haxhija had 'forgotten it was there', DJ Shamoon Somjee said: "With respect, that is opinion. Every man who comes in here charged with carrying a knife is using it to mend his stereo or fix something else."
