6 February 2009
A Borough man described as having an "appalling record" pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine at Tower Bridge Magistrates Court but will have to wait to hear his sentence.
Ian Brooks, of Great Guildford Street, apparently tried to swallow a wrap of cocaine after being spotted acting suspiciously by police as he walked along Newington Causeway near Elephant & Castle on December 2 last year.
The 43-year-old initially dropped the wrap on the floor but then picked it up and put it in his mouth. Officers held him to the floor and he eventually spat the drugs out on to the pavement.
Brooks, whom the court heard had a history of drug problems, was bailed to return on February 19 to learn his fate while probation prepare a report.
"It is not a discrete event but the latest chapter in a troubled existence," lamented DJ Stone.
"I do not know until I have read about you more how I am going to deal with you."
