Stansfield 3 Cray Valley PM 1

JUST TWO weeks after Steele announced to the world his first born will be due in five months the baby shower started early.

Fifteen-year-old Ben Mulrooney, seventeen-year-old George Lowes and nineteen-year-old Harry Draper all  playing a blinder as  Steele made sweeping changes to the side for the clash with Cray Valley PM at Badgers Sports Ground. It paid dividends with a crushing victory.

Stansfeld made a bright start in the October sunshine and nearly took the lead in the tenth minute when a neat turn and shot from Danny McKone was well saved by the Cray keeper.

Despite keeping the pressure on, Stansfeld couldn't find any openings until the 25th minute when a quick passing movement between Harry Draper and Sid Mitchell found Jamie Bowes on the left. Bowes took the ball down with his left foot and then lobbed the keeper from 35 yards with his right foot.

Stansfeld went close to increasing their lead through George Lowes and then Harvey Gayle but found the Cray keeper in top form.

Five minutes before the break and Stansfeld got the second goal they deserved, Danny McKone in the thick of all the Stansfeld moves teed Tony Saunders up on the edge of the box and he smashed the ball into the bottom right hand corner for his first of the season.

A great first half performance and a well deserved score line. Cray came out for the second half in a more determined mood and set about the Stansfeld goal but found keeper Ricky Ward and defenders Ben Mulrooney, Sid Mitchell, Del Oldfield and Joe Bacon in top form.

On the hour Stansfeld made it three. A cross from Jamie Turner to the back post found Harvey Gayle who got up above the defenders to power a header into the top corner.

Cray pushed players forward and got a penalty fifteen minutes from time which was converted and only proved to be a consolation goal as Stansfeld held out for a fine victory.
