FINED FOR OAP POST OFFICE ATTACK

25 May 2012

A short-tempered woman who got into a fight with a 75-year-old man when she wrongly thought he jumped the queue at a post office was fined.

Angry Stella Eyiangho, 48, shoved the frail pensioner and left him bleeding after she scratched his face with her nails. The court heard that the queue at the post office, in Rye Lane on April 2, had been long and the man, who walks with a stick, had been offered a seat by the person ahead of him until it was his turn.

When it was his turn he had walked to the front of the queue – where he was attacked by Eyiangho. Police were called when the irate Eyiangho returned to the building 45 minutes later, but she refused to go with officers and energetically resisted arrest until she was over-powered. Eyiangho pleaded guilty to assault by beating and resisting arrest.

The chair of the magistrate panel, Mrs Fleming, said they were going to be lenient on Eyiangho because she had pleaded guilty and because the attack was not premeditated.

“This was a very unfortunate incident,” she said. She then fined Eyiangho, of Burchell Road in Peckham, £185.
