25 February 2008
AFTER APPEARING in Weekender, Lunatic, the film by South London's Pie 'n' Mash Films, shot into orbit with accolades hitting it from all areas of the national and film press, and TV. One called them the 'masters of mobster movie-making'.
Now, Lunatic has been chosen as an entry in the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, which means rehearsals for the firm's latest production - The Brass - have been put on hold while writer/director Billy Maloney goes over to represent the film, and SE London.
For those who have still not seen Lunatic go and get it now. It is a hard-hitting, fast moving ride through streets that we know, meeting people and situations that most of us have come across in one guise or another.
Lunatic was filmed locally with local actors to keep it real. There are no Home Counties drama school students trying to talk with a South London accent to ruin what is an excellent piece of work.
Readers can follow the progress at the Festival and share in the rehearsals of the third feature - THE BRASS - on YouTube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=--bS9wQ64qw
