A major girls and women sport programme began this summer under the banner of 'Girls Get Active' - which introduced over 80 girls and women into a new sports and physical activity Programme.
The Southwark Community Games (SCG) Team in partnership with London Active Communities, Millwall Community Scheme, Southwark City Tennis Club and Aylesbury NDC made it all happen.
The 'Girls Get Active' programme included a choice of sports, from tennis to boxing, multi sports netball and fun and games and now everyone wants more!
Tennis was one sport highlighted as one of the favourites, with 40 girls budding to be the new Maria Sharapova or Serena Williams of Southwark.
Hannah, from Camberwell, said: 'I really enjoyed the Girls Get Active programme, because it gave me the chance to
try new sports that I had not tried before. It was great and I want to continue at the local club'.
As a result of this success, Southwark Council, in partnership with Southwark City tennis club at Burgess Park, are running an after school girls’ U16 tennis club starting in September - see below.
More sports are coming, so give us a call and register TODAY.
The Girls Get Active partnership is also on the search for other organisations from the local community, who want to help increase the opportunities to get more girls and women involved in sport and physical activity. So want to play more sport and 'GET ACTIVE'? Give Nicola or Amala at Community Sport Team a call.
