Kevin Pietersen started his first County Championship match against Essex yesterday as the Kennington side looked ahead to a “hard fight” at the Croydon test.

Pietersen made his comeback for Surrey last week against Cambridge MCCU, and looked in good form, scoring 48 in the second innings.
