SOUTHWARK PARK IS REAL ARTISTRY

SOUTHWARK PARK IS REAL ARTISTRY

29 July 2011

Visiting the Cafe Gallery recently in Southwark Park, I happened later to wander around the herbacious beds by the Rose Garden. It was many years since I was last year and I was astonished at what I saw.

I half expected the usual familiar lay out, but saw instead the most imaginative scheme of planting, of such richness and colour. This far exceeds any public gardens in Greenwich or Lewisham and whoever is responsible for the choice of species and planning, should be on the New Year’s Honours List. This is real artistry! It was heartening to see the park as a whole looking so good, and where else could boast of two caryatid statues to welcome visitors as they enter.
Well done Bermondsey.
Terry Scales, Greewnich
