SOUTHWARK NEWS TEAMS UP WITH KIA OVAL

29 March 2012

Southwark News and its sister paper, Weekender – south of the river – have been confirmed as the exclusive regional media partner of the Kia Oval, where Surrey County Cricket Club are based.

The partnership will allow the club to promote its activities in both Southwark and Lambeth – in particular informing local people about the many community projects run at and by the famous cricketing venue.

Southwark Newspaper Ltd Joint Managing Director, Chris Mullany, said: “We’re delighted to have agreed this partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club - we know that local sport is of great importance to our readers.

We already give our readers weekly reports and team news about Surrey CCC, but we agreed with the club that there was an opportunity here to profile some of the excellent work that goes on at the Kia Oval – and also in the community around the club, such as the work with young people in the Ben Hollioake Centre, as well as the club’s ambitious plans to revitalise the Kennington Park cricket pitch. So, from April, we will be running a page feature in every other issue of the News, and in every issue of the Weekender.

“As part of the partnership, we will also be able to offer our readers some exciting giveaways and ticket competitions to mark the start of the cricket season – so watch this space for further announcements!”

George Foster, Head of Marketing and Communications at Surrey CCC added: “The News and Weekender are fantastic local papers that offer comprehensive coverage of the amazing part of London that we are privileged to be a part of. This partnership will be a great opportunity for us to get the word out further about our team, our ground and the large amount of community activities we play a part in. With our season starting next week, I can’t think of a better time for us to partner up.”
