Over the weekend we have suffered two defeats with performances that left my assistant Paul Downes and myself ashamed.
We have always been extremely proud of the reputation that we have had throughout our years as a managment team. Any side that played us knew they were in for a real battle and that to beat us they would have a hell of a fight. However this wasn't the case in the games against Worthing and Cray Wanderers. We felt in both games we capitulated. We gave up the fight and lacked determination, passion, commitment and desire. The most basic things but the most important.
I was impressed by the Worthing team and their performance but felt we contributed to it. Whilst with all due respect to Cray we have more than enough quality to have won comfortably, although I admired the team spirit and willpower they showed to get a result, a characteristic sadly lacking in my team.
I cannot remember in my ten years as a manager being so openly critical of my team.
I always tell the players to first and foremost look at themselves just as we as a management team do.
We could point to the fact that we had five regular first choice players unavailable, we only had one centre half and one central midfielder. However all teams have to deal with this and you would like to think that the players coming in would maybe be even more commited to try to keep their shirts. One of those players Craig Braham got the chance to play in his favoured position, full back and grabbed it with both hands.
We have released four players so far this week and there are certain players that have a game or two to convince me about their commitment. If they do that they will stay, if they don't they will be shown the door. Since Monday we have been scouring the scene looking for players with the characteristics we demand.
Whatever happens you will not see a Dulwich team playing under us again that isn't up for the fight.
