DISCHARGE FOR MAN CAUGHT WITH SPLIFF

7 May 2009

A Bermondsey man caught smoking cannabis in public and then attempted to discard the evidence, appeared at Tower Bridge last week.

Mark Reynolds was spotted by police officers outside a barber shop on Queen's Road, Peckham but he dived inside and threw his spliff under a chair. Pleading guilty in court to the offence the 21-year-old from Rothsay Street was found to have outstanding fines from a number of other offences, mostly non drug related, which totalled £600.

The court heard that he was now in employment, and was in a better place to pay the fines now he had regular income. The case was initially put back while a probation report was prepared, and to establish if he is suitable for unpaid work, with the defendant warned all sentencing options would remain open.

When the case returned Reynolds was given a twelve month conditional discharge, during which time he must not offend again.
