LYNN BOXING Club is back In the ascendency and setting its sights high, after four of its fighters qualified for an international match against Ireland.

The four fighters, Obed Mbwakongo, Michael Shannon, Ryan Jackson and Samuel Hepworth will fly to Dublin in November, where they will take on a tough looking Irish squad.

The gym, based on Wells Way in Camberwell, has been on something of a slump in recent years but with a new trainer on board things are finally looking up.

Sam Mullins, who coaches at the club and will be a second on the trip to Ireland, said: "There will be eighteen fighters from across South London, and it means a lot to me and the club the boys have made the squad. They all deserve it and have shown their true colours, and have got there on their own right."

The youngsters were not afraid to state their ambitions are high, including Olympic glory in 2012 - talk which Mullins definitely encourages.

He added: "If I haven't got one of these boys to the Olympics then I have done something wrong, as I have three or four boys at that level. They look at James DeGale, and some of the boys in here know him, and they see it is something they can do."

Before the boys go off to Dublin the gym will be putting on a show on October 2 to test out some of its fighters, details of which the 'News’ will announce closer to the event.
