24 September 2007
I have a lot of things to tell you this week. The first and most important is that our filly, SOUTHWARK NEWSFLASH, is probably going back to Wolverhampton this Friday evening with a view to a quick return to the winners enclosure.
As I write we will need four of the declared runners not to stand their ground for us to be certain of a race. After her win last week I was of a mind to put her away for the winter and to put her up for a bigger prize race in the spring. However, the official handicapper has given us such a generous rating of only 56 that Mrs Dunnett thinks we should go for another win before they realize how good she is. To put that rating of 56 into perspective, my filly, Small Time Blues ran third at Wolves and was given a rating of 55. I can state without fear of contradiction that Flash is twice as good as Small Time Blues ever was.
As to the forthcoming race, Flash will almost certainly go off favourite. My only small concern about her is that after her win she was very stiff and sore for two or three days which is most unusual for her. I only hope she has not tweaked a joint or pulled a muscle. Mrs Dunnett says she is fully fit and that is good enough for me. I think you can back her with confidence but only as much as you can afford to lose. Do not go mad.
Moving on to our other hoss SOUTHWARK NEWSBOY we have decided to give him a break from training for a month or two. He still needs to grow into his frame. He is very big framed and has to develop the strength to go with his build. Both the trainer and I remain confident that he is going to be a good horse and we also agree that he must not be rushed. All of you who have shares in him can rest assured that his well-being is uppermost in all our minds. His day will come.
I would also like to take some time to explain to Club members that they should have received their ownership certificates and newsletters.
Any members who have not had their communications from me may well have incorrect or partial addresses on the members lists lodged with the newspaper. If you are in doubt please confirm your correct addresses, complete with postcode to the News.
I would also like to answer the query of the gentleman member who asked about the possibility of our hosses being taken back out of the ownership of the Racing Club. The Club has a legally binding lease on the club hosses registered with the British Horseracing Authority and the membership subscriptions guarantee that the leases remain in place.
Lets see if we can do the double at Wolves on Friday. Come on Flash!
