WHILE RUNNING the risk of becoming something of a stuck record, we note for another week that Mayor Johnson seems hellbent on removing any possible transport benefit earmarked for Southwark.
Having pulled the plug on the cross river tram and called for the Elephant & Castle regeneration scheme to help pay for north London's Crossrail, the Mayor is now considering plans to axe the Surrey Canal Road station from the proposed East London Line extension. As local people have pointed out, the bus service around the South Bermondsey area leaves a lot to be desired. And whilst the government is not blameless in the row over a £30m funding gap, surely the Mayor can see the benefits of bringing better transport links to a heavily deprived part of the capital he runs?
Money doesn't grow on trees, but wise investment in the transport infrastructure can bring employment and help sow the seeds of regeneration. South Bermondsey has a greater need for this than many parts of London, which are not being penalised for so-called funding gaps.

a quarter of London (us) has no access to the tube network. One of the three modes of public transport is missing, with obvious consequences for traffic, which is also confined to a few ancient routes, one of which, the main A2 is now almost useless due to the perennial problem of Blackheath.
The congestion charge was meant to subsidise public transport, but in our neck of ther woods, there are only two modes of public transport to subsidise.
So in theory, drivers in the south east are being conned out of a third of their charge, and south east London in general is subsidising the improvement of transport systems which we don't even have to be able to improve.
Bojo couldn't be expected to understand this injustice.
