A free street festival will take over Bankside for the day, with live music, stand up comedy, street theatre and even a Bankside ‘Bark Off’ dog show springing up across the area, writes Cara Cummings…
Led by local charity Bankside Open Spaces Trust, the festivities are taking place as part of a nationwide celebration of community organised by the Jo Cox Foundation.
The event promotes kindness, compassion and inclusivity in memory of the late Yorkshire MP, who was murdered in 2016. The Bankside event is one of the largest taking place in the UK.
“I’m overwhelmed by the amount of events we have going on this year and the quality of acts that are performing,” said Tim Wood, Chairman of Bankside Open Spaces Trust.
“We had over 9000 attendees last year, and we hope for even more this year, with such a vast range of activities and performers.
We are delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause.”
The Great Get Together Bankside will take place between midday and midnight, across Union Street, Redcross Way and Flat Iron Square.
