The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced the Night Tube will come to the Jubilee line on October 7.
The introduction of the 24-hour service at the weekends follows the successful launch of the scheme earlier this month on the Central and Victoria lines.
The 24-hour Jubilee line service at weekends will “help Londoners get to and from home and work and will make travel even easier for key London attractions along the line”, including The O2, Wembley Stadium and the Olympic Park.
Night Tube’s impact on London’s economy is already being seen with footfall in Oxford Street and the West End up by 14 per cent and 16 per cent respectively last weekend.
The Night Tube provides 24-hour weekend services for the first time in London’s history, helping to cut night-time journeys by an average of 20 minutes, with some cut by more than an hour.
The service is seeking to play a role in opening up London’s night-time economy to new opportunities, supporting around 2,000 permanent jobs and boosting London’s economy by £77m a year.
Sadiq said: “I was determined to get the Night Tube up and running as soon as possible, and I’m delighted the Jubilee Line will now begin on 7 October. There was huge excitement at the launch of the Central and Victoria Lines last Friday, and it’s already having a beneficial impact on our Night Time economy.
“Over 100,000 people used the Night Tube last weekend to get around London more quickly and safely. The launch of the Jubilee line will support thousands more workers like nurses, cleaners, and people who work in our bars and restaurants – many of whom currently take two night buses to get home. It will also serve some of our city’s key venues, with The O2, Wembley Stadium and Stratford on route.
“I will continue to work closely with British Transport Police, TfL staff and Londoners across our city to ensure the roll-out of the Night Tube continues to be a success, and we unlock the full potential of London’s exciting night time economy.”
Rebecca Kane Burton, VP of The O2, said: “The Night Tube is a game changer for venues like The O2 and thousands more across the Capital.
“Over 60 per cent of our fans already use the Jubilee line to reach us. That will grow, the experience will improve and it will enhance options for the teams who work here too.”
Julie Harrington, Wembley Stadium Venue Director, said: “This is a positive development which we welcome at Wembley Stadium.
“The Night Tube on the Jubilee line means more people can enjoy – and return home safely from – the multitude of events we host at our world-class venue, as well as allowing us to contribute further to London’s night-time economy.”
